Costas for Attorney General
I heard on the new wires today that Valpo’s Mayor, Jon Costas, is running for Indiana state attorney general and has been endorsed by Governor Mitch Daniels.
I wish Mayor Costas the best of luck. He may need the endorsement to succeed in getting elected, but I would have avoided being endorsed by Mitch. Or Bitch as I like to call him. Mitch Daniels has been very bad for Indiana for reasons I don’t need to recount here. Ditch Mitch or Ditch the Bitch as I like to say.
I look forward to voting for whoever is running against him this fall. Now, the question on my mind, is who will step in to replace Costas as Mayor of Valpo. I think he’s been a pretty good steward of the city and Valpo has gotten a lot of great things over the past few years thanks to his leadership.
Here’s hoping at least he’s replaced with someone competent. God, I hope Michael Essany doesn’t show his face in politics again and run for Mayor…

Ha … well I missed the post when it was an ongoing debate, sorry I just subscribed tonite and will contribute more often.
As for Mayor Costas, he’s endorsed Greg Zoeller and will be helping him work with the Mayors in Indiana to build more support. Don’t count out Costas, he’ll be back on the state stage!
As for Mitch Daniels, I don’t know your beef, but I think you’ll have to agree that he’s done a lot of great things for NW Indiana. He pushed the formation of the RDA which could net us a South Shore Extension and Major Investments in the airport. The Democrats tried to kill that! He pushed the 1 percent cap, that will save homeowners millions and make local governments in Lake County cut costs for the first time in decades. The Democrats tried to kill that too!
What did he do that you disliked?
My beef with Mitch mostly concerns the leasing of the toll road. Ever since the new owners took over, service has gone down hill. There have been good things done for NWI under his term, I will admit that. But leasing the toll road is something I’ll never get over. I’m generally not a fan of large public/private partnerships, especially for infrastructure. The public usually ends up on the bottom of that pyramid. If you disagree try using the Skyway on a Sunday afternoon. You’ll sit in your car for twenty minutes while the only two attendants take their time.
Since starting the blog, I’ve decided to mostly avoid writing about NWI politics, there are plenty of those kinda blogs out there and you guys are doing a pretty good job covering politics of the region. I’m going to focus more on the positive, apolitical aspects of NWI. There will be slight exceptions when it comes to infrastructure projects like the South Shore which I strongly believe in.
Feel free to chime in anytime — anyone’s thoughts are welcome regardless of their politics. Good discussion is great for everyone.
Jon
Jon, thanks for responding so quickly. You aren’t the only person who felt the Toll Road Lease was bad for Mitch.
I liked the idea, I generally feel that governments should get out of things that private businesses can do … like the postal service. I’ll stay tuned though.
